In collaboration with the Olive Ridley Project, our primary area of work is the Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park. Here, we meticulously observe behavioral changes, conduct population abundance studies, and focus on individual Sea Turtle identification through detailed photo analysis.

One of our key methodologies involves photo identification. By capturing detailed photographs of the distinctive patterns on the side scales of turtles’ faces, we gain insights.

Scientific research is the cornerstone of our efforts. With an unfortunate increase in turtle mortalities due to net entanglement, boat collisions, indigestion, and plastic blockage, we are dedicated to understanding the causes. Our team at Shimoni Turtle Watch conducts scientific and social research around the Wasini Channel, aiming to bridge the gap in knowledge. From investigating mortality cases to identifying diseases, our research is geared towards answering critical questions and developing effective conservation strategies.
